Before the Avalon Ball Weekend

Afternoon Dance Workshops
Do you want to learn the free, easy and elegant dances of the Jazz Age? Walter Nelson, the producer of the Avalon Ball, is offering two workshops prior to the ball to get you ready for the dance floor. The first one will also include an introduction to what to wear to the ball and on the island. Both classes will make extensive use of old films and are very beginner friendly.

Recurring Dance Classes
The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Pasadena is offering special Avalon Ball prep classes.

Sundays:
4pm Foxtrot, Waltz & Tango
5pm Charleston, Early Swing & Rumba
Couples and singles are welcome.
Each student can purchase in a drop in style at $12 per class or purchase the series for $45 per class. (if they want to take both classes (the 4pm & the 5pm) they can purchase both series for $80.

The Avalon Ball Weekend

Friday, May 19th, 6 PM - 8 PM: Cocktails at the Avalon Grille
Mingle with the Art Deco crowd at this informal gathering at the centrally located Avalon Grille with a no host bar. Afterwards, you can dine at the Grille or at any of the other fine eateries about town.

Saturday, May 20th, 1 PM - 4 PM: Catalina Island Museum Silent Film Benefit featuring Peter Pan

Sunday, May 21st, 1 PM - Resort Wear Rendezvous at the New Museum
Rendezvous with your fellow decophiles at the new Catalina Island Museum (just up the street from the Safeway) to view the museum and their Chihuly art glass special exhibit. We encourage you to wear your finest Deco era resort wear: beach pajamas, Palm Beach suits, bathing costumes, vintage style Aloha shirts etc.

Sunday, May 21st, 2:30 PM - Tour the Island in Deco Style
Book your seat on the beautiful “Skyline Drive” tour in a vintage streamline moderne bus. Tickets for this date are not yet on sale. It will be posted to the website and set as a Facebook event as soon as tickets are available.
