Avalon Art Deco Weekend


The Avalon Ball is not the only thing to do on Catalina on the weekend of May 18-20. It will be a busy few days with a variety of events for the lover of all things Art Deco and Jazz Age.

Sunday, April 22nd, 1 PM: Pre-Avalon Ball dance class and Mixer in Glendale

Avalon Ball Weekend

Friday, May 18th, 6 PM: Catalina Cocktails at the Bluewater in Avalon
For those on the island the evening before the ball, come on down for an informal gathering of fellow deco-philes. It's a loosely organized gathering with a no-host bar. The Bluewater is also a great place for supper, and reservations are strongly encouraged. (More info)

Saturday, May 19th, 1 PM: Catalina Silent Film Festival presents "Danger Island" with Harry Houdini.
See Harry Houdini escape multiple perils to the accompaniment of a live orchestra in the amazing, spectacular Casino Theater. There will also be an art auction. (More info)

Sunday, May 20th, 1 PM: Sunday Afternoon at the Museum
Join your fellow Deco-philes and friends of the Catalina Island Museum for a friendly gathering, appetizers and drinks. It will include a presentation on what it would have been like to come over to the island for a night of dancing in the 1930s.(More info)

Vintage Activities on Catalina

Here are a few suggestions for ways you may want to spend your post-ball Sunday afternoon - or things to do if you come a few days early or stay a few days later. These are activities that might have been done by a visitor to the island in the 1930s.
